Lollipop Candy Multihead Weighing VFFS Packing Machine

Our multihead VFFS packing machine for lollipops features a stick-friendly design with guide grooves and directional feeding. It runs at 15-70 bpm, creating pillow packs, multi-packs, and bags with hanging holes.

Description

Packing lollipops presents a unique challenge due to their sticks. Our machine is engineered specifically to handle them, preventing jams and ensuring a smooth, efficient packaging process every time.

This is a complete automated system that weighs and packages lollipops into pillow packs. It combines a multihead weigher with a vertical form fill seal (VFFS) machine that has special modifications for products with sticks.

Standard packing machines often jam when trying to bag lollipops because the sticks get caught. Our solution uses a custom design to guide the sticks properly, leading to fewer stops, less waste, and higher productivity.

Application

Products: lollipop candy with/without stick
Pack Formats: Pillow/gusset bag

Line flow: Infeed → Multihead Weigher → VFFS forming/filling/sealing → Date/lot code → Metal/X-ray → Checkweigh & reject → Case packing → Palletizing.

Core Features

Every aspect of this machine is built to control the lollipop and its stick during the packaging cycle. The design focuses on reliability and preventing jams, which are the biggest sources of inefficiency.

  • Stick-Guiding System: The core of the machine is its ability to handle sticks. It uses custom-designed guide channels and a directional feeding chute. These guides align the lollipops so the sticks are always pointing in the correct direction as they fall into the forming tube. This prevents them from tumbling, turning sideways, and causing jams. This specialized system is the key to achieving consistent, uninterrupted production.
  • Versatile Packaging Options: This machine can produce several popular bag styles. You can create standard single-unit pillow packs, perforated multi-packs (chain bags) for value sales, or bags with a Euro hole for hanging on retail display hooks. This flexibility allows you to meet different market demands and retailer requirements with a single machine, increasing your product’s appeal.
  • Cost-Friendly Operation: The machine is designed to run smoothly even with standard, cost-effective packaging films. Its precise control over film tension and a wider forming tube reduce the risk of sticks tearing or scraping the film. This means you don’t need to buy expensive, extra-thick films to get a high-quality, durable bag, which helps lower your operational costs.
  • Quick and Easy Changeovers: You can quickly adjust the machine for lollipops with different stick lengths or candy head diameters. The guide rails and machine settings are designed for fast modification, often with tool-free adjustments or simple changes on the control screen. This minimizes downtime between runs of different products, maximizing your factory’s output.

FAQ

Q1: How do you prevent lollipop sticks from getting stuck on the conveyor belt feeding the machine? A1: This is a common issue with standard flat belts. We solve this by using an incline conveyor with cleats or scoops. Instead of just sliding up a belt, the lollipops are carried in individual pockets. This keeps them separated and prevents the sticks from catching on the belt or tangling with each other. For fully automated lines, we can also integrate a vibratory bowl feeder that orients each lollipop correctly before it is lifted, ensuring a smooth and orderly flow into the weigher.

Q2: How do you perform a changeover for lollipops with different stick lengths?
A2: Our machine is designed for fast changeovers. The process is straightforward. The stick guiding channels inside the machine are adjustable. An operator can easily widen or narrow them using simple hand-wheels or quick-release clamps, with no special tools required. The settings for the bag length and sealing positions are changed on the machine’s touchscreen HMI. A complete changeover for a different stick length can typically be done in under 20 minutes, which minimizes downtime.

Q3: How do you reduce the problem of sticks scraping or tearing the film?
A3: Stick scraping is a risk, so we address it in three ways. First, the directional feeding system ensures the lollipop drops straight down, with the stick aligned vertically, so it’s less likely to hit the side of the film. Second, we use a wider forming tube than standard machines. This creates more space between the lollipop and the film as it falls. Third, the servo-controlled film transport system maintains consistent tension, so the film is not too tight, which makes it less prone to tearing if a stick does make contact.

Q4: How does this machine connect with a metal detector or checkweigher?
A4: Integrating these quality control machines is standard practice. The VFFS machine’s exit conveyor is placed in line with the checkweigher and metal detector. Once a bag is filled and sealed, it drops onto this conveyor and travels directly through the metal detector to check for contaminants. After that, it moves across the checkweigher to confirm its weight is within the acceptable range. If a bag fails either check, a rejection arm automatically pushes it off the line into a reject bin. This creates a fully integrated and automated quality assurance process.
